So, the other day we FINALLY went to "Get Smart." Even though it didn't get that great of reviews, a lot of people I know that had seen it thought it was hilarious, so I was actually looking forward to it. Plus it had Steve Carell in it, and he is one of my new favorite actors.
Well...it was a big disappointment for me, on a lot of different levels. So, I'll start with the humor. The humor is slapstick humor, and I guess if you find that funny, then you will LOVE this movie. It seemed to be more along the lines of...wow, I can't even think of a movie. Not as stupid as Dumb and Dumber, but not as good as Cheaper By the Dozen, which had some slapstick humor to it, but it was cute and funny in other ways so they pulled it off.
This movie didn't pull it off. And, I'm sorry, but I had a difficult time seeing Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway together. Mid-40's with Mid-20's girl. EWWWW! And, while I do like Anne Hathaway in some movies, Steve Carell actually could pull it off making you think that his character was falling for hers, but she was a little out of her league trying to convince me that she actually was falling for him. Yah...right!
Another thing, was some of it was just plain disgusting. There is one time during the film where they show Steve Carell throwing up...literally puking into a flight bag, and it SHOWS ALL OF IT. Not just a little reference. It made me gag.
My hubby thought it was hilarious though. If we do ever buy it, it will definitely be for him, because I think I could live the rest of my life and not miss seeing it EVER again.
