I finished reading "The Host" the other day. It is the new book out by Stephenie Meyer. I decided since I liked her Twilight series so much, that I would give this one a whirl.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Where the Twilight books were written for the young adult/teen level, this book was written for the adult level. I felt like it had a lot more description of things, places, people, characters, etc... because of that, a teen level reader might find this book to be a little boring because it does not rush through things at a lightening level pace like her Twilight books. That being said, I still felt like it flowed just right.
In this book you are introduced to two main characters...sort of. What do I mean by that? Well, you have a character named, Melanie. She is the "host" to a parasitic alien named, Wanderer/Wanda. You read the book from the perspective of Wanda, but Melanie is a big part of the book too. It's almost like reading a book about someone with a multiple personality disorder in that sense.
Still, the two are very separate characters, and it is very interesting to read, merely from that standpoint.
So, you start the book, they are putting Wanda into Melanie's body. One problem...Melanie is still very much there. She fights it and resists from the very get go. Wanda finds this challenging, but puts up a good effort. Because Wanda is in Melanie's brain, so to speak, she is subjected to all of Melanie's memories...at least, the memories that Melanie is willing to share, and doesn't block off. Wanda finds herself falling in love with the people that Melanie loved, and goes off to find them.
What ensues is a very interesting meeting with the people/resisters who are in hiding. The final outcome of the book was intriguing because you think it is going to end one way, even though you don't want it to, but then it ends a different way, which I was very glad for!
All in all, a good book.
